The Association of Synthetic Fibre Industry (ASFI)–a chamber for the Synthetic / Man-Made Fibre (MMF) Industry since year 1972 (52 years), represents the manufacturers of Polyester Filament Yarn, Polyester Staple Fibre, Nylon Filament Yarn, Nylon Tyre Cord Fabric and Polyester Tyre Cord Fabric comprising 90% of the Indian Synthetic / Man Made Fibre Industry. The industry is highly capital intensive and investments of over Rs.65,000 crores had already been made.
Further, investments of USD 15 Billion (Rs. 1,25,000 crores), including the raw materials are required to be made to meet the future Textiles and clothing demand in the country which will primarily be met by Synthetic Fibres as there is very little scope for higher cotton production, provided there is a re-investment economics.
The Indian Synthetic Fibre Industry is mainly located in the Western Coast, i.e. in the State of Gujarat, Silvassa, Daman, Maharashtra and NCR etc., contributing significantly to the State and Central Revenue.

Ltd, Bhilosa Industries Ltd, Wellknown Polyesters Ltd, AYM Ltd ( Welspun Group), SRF Ltd (erstwhile DCM), Garden Silk Mills Pvt Ltd., Sanathan Textiles Ltd, Beekaylon Synthetics Pvt. Ltd, D. N. H. Spinners Pvt. Ltd, Madura Industrial Textiles Ltd, Grasim Industries Ltd, Aglon Industries Pvt Ltd, Gujarat Polyfilms Pvt Ltd., Kalyani Polymers Pvt Ltd, Gokulanand Petrofibres Ltd., among others are the members of ASFI.
The Indian Synthetic Fibre industry has grown to be the 2nd largest producer of Chemical Fibres in the world after China. The industry is fully integrated – upstream and downstream. Polyester is the dominant fibre comprising 90% of the total Chemical Fibres in India and Globally.
